Intergenerational Project - Almost complete!!!
We are delighted, at last, to come to the finish line of our ‘Intergenerational Project’ with The Men’s Shed, Lurgan. This project was funded with a grant from the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon council.
The children started the project by drawing images that they felt represented our school and the surrounding area of Magheralin. After initial drawings the children decided upon what they would like to include in the final piece. We then met our volunteers from the Men’s Shed, Mick, Marty and Gerry, who helped the Primary 4 children to create individual mosaic pieces. These individual pieces were then placed together on to a larger board.
On Thursday 6th June, volunteers from the Men's shed came to hang the mosaic! The children came out to watch the process with pride and joy in their work.
I would like to thank Lynette Cooke, ABC, for her support in helping us to establish a link with the Men's Shed. Huge appreciation and thanks is given to Mick, Marty and Gerry from the Men's shed, for their support, dedication, patience and care in working with the children each week.
We hugely appreciate our children's talents, efforts and great attitude as they worked on the project!
Finally, I would like to mention Sabinni Tiles Banbridge, who were unending in their generosity in giving us tiles and to Magic Tiles and AB Tiles in Lurgan, for their support to ensure that our project was completed.
The images that the children decided upon include;
- Trees that surround our school
- The caterpillar and hopscotch they use in the playground
- A football representing the sports they play in school
- A guitar and drums to represent music
- The River Lagan that flows gently through the area
- The ducks!
- The fields that show our more rural setting
- The sun representing our happiness and joy and the warmth of the people of Magheralin
- Central to it all, the child in the middle, the reason we are all here!
We have just a little bit of work to do to make sure that our mosaic is weather proof and long lasting, but we are delighted with how it looks so far. Well done to all involved!
